This was without the cooperation of a man, and she remained a virgin after that"; and that " Christ. I am inclined to agree with those who declare that 'brothers' really mean 'cousins' here, for Holy Writ and the Jews always call cousins brothers". Many current Protestant churches teach the virgin birth of Jesus , without teaching that Mary remained a virgin for the rest of her life. Prima facie these verses argue against Mary's perpetual virginity, but there are possible explanations which lead to the conclusion that "it cannot be said that the NT identifies [Jesus' brothers and sisters] without doubt as blood brothers and sisters and hence as children of Mary".
